Contact Me
I chose to become a Discovery Toys consultant for many reasons. I am the proud mom of two young men, both have taught me the importance of taking time to play, discovery, create and communicate. Twenty years ago when the diagnosis of "AUTISM" entered our family I made a conscious decision to communicate with my child, to engage him, to ensure he was happy and loved, and most of all, included in the world against all odds. Experts told me he might never talk, make eye contact, or understand emotions like love. Well I didn't believe that. Today 20 years later he looks me in the eye and tells me "I LOVE YOU`` as well as many other things. Growing up he has loved toys that give a reaction and one of his favorite toys was his GoGo Caterpillar that he got many years ago. Just last spring while purging, I was reminded of this 15 year old toy, the poor thing had seen its day so it was laid to rest. It reminded me of all the toys I had purchased in the last twenty years to teach, communicate, and engage and which ones he really enjoyed. Then I started to think of all the other toys he has explored in daycares, preschools, K-12 inclusive and segregated classrooms, hospitals, doctors offices, stores, restaurants, day programs, support homes, and of course the toys of friends and family. My mind kept coming back to Discovery Toys and how many of his favorite types Discovery Toys has a variation of it, the difference is that Discovery toys always take it to another level of learning. For example, the Measure Up! Cups. There so many ways to learn while exploring such fundamental concepts as counting, sorting, volume, size, patterns, measurement, clock time and more. All these skills in one toy for fewer than twenty dollars what a bargain. Discovery Toys are fun, interactive, safe, durable, inclusive and most of all AFFORDABLE.
With technology so predominate in learning, it communication and social interaction skills that seem to be on the decline. Discovery Toys focus on toys, books and games that encourage social interaction and communication. Not only are you purchasing the toys but with so many of the toys you are provided with suggestions and tools to enhance the possibilities of learning and fun.
Just recently I relocated to Leduc and was invited to a Discovery Toys party, I was excited to see what new and exciting things have been added over the years. The Educational Consultant provided me a list of toys that were on Discover Toys Recommended Autism and Special Needs List complete with a key to the specific learning each toy supports. I decided then and there to book a party and by then end of the demonstration I was convinced that becoming an Educational Consultant was in my future.
I am so very excited to bring Discovery Toys to individuals regardless of age or abilities that encourage social interaction, communication, learning and most of all FUN.
Sincerely
Tammy Prokopowich
